I am looking for a cheap 4x4 that is dead cheap to run. i live out in the sticks and run a big 4x4 which I need for towing. I also however need a cheap 4x4 to get me to work in Newcastle. I currently put well over £100 per week into my trooper.
i quite like the idea of a Panda Cross but Fiat are taking the piss at the moment with 12k asking prices, 10k via internet is still to expensive.
I am thinking about the petrol 4x4 panda for a year or so whilst waiting for the diesel to drop in price and some good deals are out there to be had.
How good or bad is the fuel econnomy of the 1.2 4x4 petrol panda??
neil.

The Panda 4x4 is a great little motor. We only get the 1.1 and 1.2 petrol, the 1.1 is a waste of time. The Cross is great as it comes with the 1.3 diesel but I agree the price is too high.
The 1.2 is a little gutless but the 4x4 system is very capable but on the motorway it's a tad too low geared to really zip along.
I would consider a 1.3 diesel 4x4 from Europe, they will be cheap now and being such a narrow car won't matter if it's LHD.
Have you driven a Sedici? again the 1.9 diesel is the best but there are loads of 1.6 petrol versions around (try the Suzuki SX4 too same car different badge)

I really don't want any other cars but the overiding factor is fuel economy. I live on the 440m contour line in Northumberland so big 4x4 is a must (we are expecting a foot of snow tomorrow)The Panda 4x4 is really for the commute to newcastle every day so I am looking for the smallest cheapest to run and most fuel efficient 4x4 I can find. it needs to be 4x4 because we have a habit of leaving for work in the sunshine and not being able to get back home when it snows in the afternoons. The 1.2 is a little gutless but the 4x4 system is very capable but on the motorway it's a tad too low geared to really zip along.

I agree with you. If money wasn't an object then a diesel cross would be what I buy but in the short term I am looking for a 1.2 Panda 4x4 and will trade in next year when the cross has dropped to half its price.
I was hoping someone could tell me what the 4x4 is returning on a run since my hope is to buy and run the car for a lot less than the £120 per week I am putting in my Izuzu trooper which I still need for towing.
