Selespeed - have mechanics got the hang of it?
Discussion
I am really, really tempted by a 147 Selespeed. I have driven a few automated manuals and like the driving experience and have trawled through loads of threads about Selespeed.
From what I can gather, Alfa independents seem to be getting to grips with these and most issues can be fixed relatively easily and cheaply. The days of even the slightest glitch being solved by "new actuator mate", "new pump assembly mate" seem to be on the way out.
Am I right? Or am I talking b
ks? Also, is there any given point in production where they really sorted it out?

I think most people try and avoid them if they can. However because of this you can pick up some bargains! Try and go for as late a model as you can with the latest software. It will also help if you have a good independant nearby to look after the car properly rather than just rolling his eyes at it.
I believe it's had a few revisions and the later ones are much better.
Alfaman in Rayners Lane are meant to be good for fixing them if it does go wrong:

I'd also agree, selespeed scaremongering means there are some seriously cheap cars about if that gearbox appeals.

Thanks for the replies. I have seen 'Alfaman' crop up a few times in connection with this - they seem pretty well up on all things Selespeed.
Rusper Alfa Romeo is not a million miles away from me (Guildford). I called them and they said that Sele cars were not really a nightmare but did have a fair few niggly faults, most of which were well known by now. I have a nice 30 mile (each way) commute with a mix of B and A roads plus a bit of motorway which is pretty easy on cars so I am hoping that daily use will be good for the system.
I might just take the plunge - it is true that prices are very attractive at the moment.
