GTV V6 Speedo issue

Hi,
my 98 GTV 3ltr has devoloped a speedo fault whislt not been used over the winter. I took her out for a quick airing today as it's nice and dry and after 15mins the speedo stoped working. I left it when I went in a shop and afterwards it was fine, then stopped again.
I've had this issues on other cars and found that the conectors to the speed sensor need cleaning. I've found a wire appearing form out the top of the gear box near the top, can anyone confirm if this is the connector for the Speedo?
