I'm thinking about getting a 159, 3.2 V6 Lusso. I had the diesel version as a hire care a year ago and liked it a lot. Are there any potiential problems with the 159 that I should be aware of? I'm in the fortunate position that reliability is more important than fuel consumption / running costs.

Yeah, I'm assuming it'll be thirsty but I'm currently driving a Golf V6 4motion, so I'm used to big fuel bills! I'm more concerned about build quality and faults developing.

Alfa's had a massive turn around in reliability issues since the 147 was introduced. The 159 seems to be really good car, and much better than the 156 in terms of reliability. Still too new to know what they're like at 5 years old and 200000 miles, but everything I've heard / read is v favourable.

I used to have a 159 3.2 Q4 and it was fantastic. Really good car, as you might expect it could be thirsty when being driven with 'enthusiasm', but when just cruising on the m-way at 80-90 it was pretty economical.

If I needed that sort of car, I wouldn't hesitate in getting another one.

By the way, it was 100% reliable, never had any problems with it at all. Even the local dealer (Perrys of Amersham) was really good.

Ive had two 159's and no problems..first one did 60k in one yr and never missed a beat.
I have a 159 Ti Q4 with the 2.4d and its chipped so its knocking out around 250bhp. So if you want good fuel econ and some good power with great talk i can not speak any better about it.
Make sure you get a Q4... the torque steer is terrible if not...

Thats interesting, i was thinking of a ti 2.4 next. What did you get MPG wise?

I was imagining a Q4 would cripple the economy.

Imagine you are on a wet, uphill junction, turning left and you need to nip out into traffic. Does the Q4 still scrabble at the front end, or does it feel more like a rear wheel drive push?

More like a Rear wheel drive as its bias to the rear by around 56%
Any front wheel drive car over 200BHP should be 4WD in my opinion now esp after having the 2wd version of this one before.

Well, thanks for all the advice guys. I'm picking a 159 up next week smile. c. 9k miles on an '07 plate, V3.2 Q4 Lusso for 14 grand. I'm disappointed that the '07 models don't come with Blue & Me as part of the Lusso pack, but they agreed to fit an ipod adapter for me as part of the deal.

I'll miss the Golf (it's still a lovely drive, even if it's getting a bit dog-eared at 50k miles) but I am really looking forward to the Alfa!

Dont worry about the blue and me...it really is crap...when using the phone you have to shout for the person to hear you...
Just so you know I work for the Fiat Group covering Europe for them and all of my colleagues blue and me systems are crap...so dont worry about not having it.
Enjoy your motor.

I'm shopping around for a 159 Diesel tomorrow. I'm genuinely excited! Despite my current company car being a 530d, which objectively is a superb car, there is something about the 159 that stirs the soul.

After ten years of german company cars, which with the exception of the BMW have been rather uninspiring, souless (and unreliable) A4s, I feel like I'm going back to my roots. (I had four Alfas in my youth).

I hope there's no caveats!

Just sorted out a 159 2.4 diesel Ti Sportwagon in black.

Collecting it at the weekend. 5k on the clock and paid £18500.

Can't wait to get it, It's replacing my Subaru Impreza wagon (profile pic).

The impreza has blistering performance, but 24mpg when i'm doing 25k a year is just daft. Plus it makes you deaf and the ride is F1 stiff.

Feel like i'm giving in a bit! Especially with this talk of V6's! but it'll make a good daily hack/dog car/tow car.

I just hope i do like it, i lost 50% of the value of the Subaru in 12months, and although the Alfa has already deprciated from new, it'll keep plummeting i imagine!

Must keep it for at least 2 years...... repeat.....!
