Hi Guys

Looking to spend 3k on one - seems to be a few around.

I understand there are 136, 140 and 150 hp engines does anyone know the years
for them ?

Also what do they do to the gallon and how much a year are they to tax ?

What engine is it as I'm told its not Alfas ?

Are they 5 or 6 speed ?

Ta

Hi,

We just picked up a 52 plate with 100k on the clock at the weekend. It is the 2.4 JTD, have been led to believe its a 150bhp version. Tax is £185 a year I think. It is 5 speed, I think its the later 2.4's (after outside facelift) that are 6 speed. Oh and there is also a 115bhp 1.9JTD available as well but I think this is also facelifted cars. No idea about mpg, we are still running through the first tnk and our on board computer thingy has gone to st (see other thread).... Someone who actually knows what they are talking about will be along soon I'm sure.

Chris

p.s. stick with your search they are awesome cars, well worth waiting to find the right one though, ours took 5 months to find!

Thanks for that - I've owned Alfas before ( all petrols ) and love them.

I need a Sportwagon as we've just bought a puppy who will be a big lad when hes fully grown so I hope the boot will be big enough.

It will be replacing a P - Reg 1.1 Saxo and the Mrs will use it every day.

I did fancy a 159 Ti 2.4 but would have to get Rid of my weekend toy to stretch to one of those which I'm not prepared to do.

I can Imagine a nice 156 in Veloce trim would do the trick.

Yep definitely achievable for that budget. Ours is veloce spec 100k miles, with tan momo leather, bose stereo, cruise control and built in sat nav. Love it. We got it for considerably less than £3k too! Very happy with it too.

136 is the very early cars which soon turned into 140. 150 cames with the 2002 mild facelift - check for colour coded wing mirrors and integral stereo with steering wheel buttons. All these are 10 valve and all are 5 speed. The engine is Alfa's own. It's also used in some Fiats.
Mine did mid 30s round town and mid 40s on a run.

20 valve 175bhp versions came with the big nose 2003 facelift and are all 6 speed. These might be creeping into your budget now, but if not try and get a 150 one.

Check you are happy with the boot space!

Thinking of buying one of these if I can't get a reasonably priced diesel ZTT, I love the look of them but I have a question. Does anyone on here know whether you can get a mountain bike in the back with the seats still up? (with the wheels off, that is).

I should add that I meant the bike wheels, obviously.........

Possibly as it's fairly wide at the back of the boot - towards the rear seats it tapers in a lot for the rear suspension turrets. I always drop the seats and take just the front wheel off though.

I could be tempted to part with mine if that's what you're after...

Yes you can get a mountain bike in the boot, it's close though! Wheels and saddle need to come off.

We have had ours from new, done 135k and still drives the same as when we got it. It is a 52 facelift 2.4JTD Veloce, originally a 150bhp model, now it's around 190-200 and goes like stink. We get between 39 and 52mpg, 52 on a long run at the speed limits with gradual smooth accelleration, 39mpg when used round town, driving quickly on a b and m roads returns between 42 and 48mpg.

Suspension would appear to be the only week link, in more ways than one, when it's working well it's great, needs replacing every 60k or so though. Listen for squeeks. With all the weight up front it can scrape the undertray easily too, this has never caused any damage to the body, just scrapes on the undertray, most will have cable tied back up.

All round great car.
