Just fitted uprated discs and pads to my 156 sportwagen to cure grinding noise and poor brake performance ( particularly in the wet!) although the original pads still had quite a bit of life in them. However, although the new ones work a lot better they are still very noisy particularly when braking from high speed. Is there any more I can do, or is it a case of living with it?

This may sound a bit daft but are you sure it is the brakes making the noise? Sometimes drilled and groved disks make more noise than standard ones by their nature. When you increse the friction that energy will be disappated more either through more noise or more heat. Once the new pads have had chance to bed in the noise should be reduced; if not then it may be another cause. Wheel bearings, dry cv joints or gear box bearings can make more noise under braking as more force is applied to the whole drive train under tension. Should the noise persist I'd get those checked out bofore the grinding noise becomes a pop.

Thanks. Noise has reduced as pads have bedded in though they are still pretty noisy under heavy braking. The discs are drilled and grooved so I guess that is probably the answer.
