It's a SW, if it makes a difference.

Upon locking her today we noticed after the one long bleep that we normally get, about 5 seconds later there was another short single bleep.

Neither of us remember hearing this before and wonder if it's an alert that we should be taking note of?

'Im indoors reckons it's saying it's locked but not alarmed, either way we're more curious than worried.

My advice is check that ALL the doors and boot are shut and try again.

When it happened on mine I'd not closed the boot properly.

Mine doesn't beep at all frown

As said, could be the boot or the bonnet, sometimes the sensors can play up a bit.

Yep, single short beep means it's detected something amiss - check all the doors/bonnet/tailgate switches are going home properly: squirt of WD40 sometimes helps.

My 156 always did this.

I thought it was a confirmation that all was okay? If a door was open, you would hear a quick double beep otherwise.

If its a long beep. 5 seconds, short beep. Thats normal. This is for a post 2002 facelift model. Not sure about earlier ones...

Nah the second beep of dispair haunted my 156 ownership (X 2.0Veloce, and 02 GTA) ..

Basically the alarm couldnt set itself for some reason and so it's disabled.. bonnet was a good culprit - check the locking mechanism - something you should do anyway it does get covered in crap and not close properly, leading to the 156 flying bonnet syndrome - there was a service campaign on this that alfa added to the service schedules to lubricate the mechanism...

There does seem to be a bit of variation between the various alarm systems fitted by AR over the years.

My GTV only does an extra little beep a second or two later if something's wrong, e.g. left the boot open or something.

Ah, does sound like you've all confirmed our suspicions then! Will check the bonnet when she comes back later (MOH has her currently).

She's a 2000 Veloce, but sounds like it covers most models.

Still loving the boot self alarming / locking set up though - small things eh?
