An 01 2.0 TS.

Tappety until about 1500 revs, then it sounds lovely.

Any ideas?

Does it sound a bit like a diesel on startup?
When did you last have the variator changed? It's good practice to change it at each cambelt swap. Make sure your oil is clean and always topped up and then get it done at the next cambelt service.

Think old Ford engine noise

Car had a cambelt about 30k miles ago.

Did they do the variator?
If not, do it at the next change in....6,000 miles time!
