146 advice?

friend is after a new car, these threads might pop up in various places on PH over the next few days.

seen some Alfa 146's and he is interested in them. just wondering if we went to look at one, what to look out for, engine stuff/chassis. general reliability. electrics?

Yes, they've got all of those!


Listen out for clonks from knackered front suspension bushes. Have a good poke about underneath to make sure everything is solid. Ask for concrete proof the cambelt and tensioners have been done in the last 3 years/36,000 miles - if not, budget for it. Check oil is clean and up to level. Lift the relay cover in front of the battery to make sure it's not just a big mass of green mould. Make sure the master key is present - it's a sort of strange brown colour. Other than that usual used car checks. Have fun!

I know of a reasonable Ti that's up for sale near Halifax if you are ever passing!
