Alfa Diesel & Chipping - 147 &156
Discussion
Recently been looking at the GTA's but my mind switched to the potential alternative of buying a JTD and chipping it.
Now i appreciate slightly different beasts but the diesel seems to give a fair bit of shove even in comparison to the GTA, but i'm not that knowledgeable on 'the real world' effect.
So any views on the diesels, chipping and really how good the 2.4JTD is?

Tricky one really. The GTA is a very special car. The JTD will always be a modified "normal" car. Having said that the 2.4 is a wonderful engine and responds very well to tuning. One thing I would say though is try a 156 2.4 20 valve in standard form before doing any modifying. You will be amazed at how well it goes as stock.
In either case the suspension is poor on rough roads and the JTD brakes are marginal at best!

I just put some decent pads on mine and it made a huge difference - Ferodo DS Performance on new OEM disks. There's no need for extreme stuff on a road car and technically DS2500 (the next grade of pad up) aren't road legal. Ferodo do seem the pad of choice on Alfas though - don't be tempted to save £10 by buying something unrecommended!
Alfa brakes aren't over-servoed like a lot of cars so they do sometimes "feel" weaker than they are, especially if you've come out of something where you stand the car on it's nose end as soon as touch the pedal!
