Alfa Romeo Spider P REG

Just been for a spin in my mates Alfa Spider and there is this loud whirring noise coming from the front of the car over about 30mph and then it stays there till you get below 20mph. I don't think its a bearing and the steering and tracking feel ok.

Is this a common problem on these old wrecks ?? (laugh) what is it ?, CV joint or something in the transmission ??

Any advice greatly appreciated
