Alfa 156 Air Filter

Hi,

Has anyone fitted a K&N style cone to a 156?

If so, did it make any difference?

I have only heard a 156 2.0 TS with a K+N and to me it sounded excellent, added a great deal more Alfa rasp

However there is a big discussion on Alfaowner about the potential issues that will arise from fitting a cone filter to a 156/159 due to the way that the filter is set so low, there is a higher possibility that with a cone filter water will get through and ruin the engine!

A few specialists refuse to fit them as a result.

You may also find that your MAF doesn't like the oil that K&Ns use. Autodelta use foam filters for this reason. What engine are we talking about? If it's a Twin Spark it's useful to fit the V6 air intake pipe.

i fitted a new K&N to the original airbox, not a cone mind the original shape, I think it makes the V6 a little noisier, need to do more tweeking of the exhaust though.
no issues with the MAF, I havent oiled it more than was on it out of the packet

Used an Autodelta foam filter due to possible oil damage to the MAF
together with the GTA inlet pipe to the standard air box. Sounds great.

If your working on the airbox remember to grease / coppaslip the airbox
lid screws.

I've run a K&N panel filter on our V6; the MAF died recently, but within normal expectations anyway, & there wasn't any oil contamination as far as we could see. As soon as I can be 4rsed I'll be refitting it.
