I had a new clutch fitted to my 2.4JTD sportwagon 11 months ago having just had it remapped. Its been absolutely fine until the last 3 weeks (and 19k miles)when it started slipping. The clutch was under warranty but when the garage stripped it down the clutch showed only average wear and still had plenty of life left in it. However, it appears that the dual mass fly wheel was warped. This was replaced (£525!)along with new clutch plates but the clutch immediately started slipping as soon as any reasonable amount of power was applied. The garage are now saying that there is too much torque for the clutch to handle, but having had no problems in the previous year I think this is a get out. Could the new flywheel be at fault? Dual mass flywheels are new to me and I know nothing about them. Help!!

What bhp remap did you have?

I've had both 175 and 190-200 on a standard clutch with no immediate problems. Clutch has been slipping for the last year or so, but I've owned the car for 30k miles.

If you've got a new DMF and clutch then you should be fine for a few thousand miles at least, as your is slipping on fresh parts there must be a problem, particularly as you say it was fine before!

Did the garage use quality parts? Clutch slip will be the clutch, when DMFs fail you get lots of vibration/juddering.

Just a thought, the clutch you had put in last time...was it uprated?

The clutch I had last time was supposed to be uprated, but it appears that the garage (Mr. Clutch)used the standard Alfa part, which is an upgrade on the parts they would normally use, but not an improvement on what was in originally. The latest replacement is genuine Alfa. The remap gave me a nominal 40 BHP and 45 ft/lb over the standard 140BHP.There is a certain amount of vibration on hard acceleration between 1900 - 2300 RPM but not invariably. The slip is also not always consistent.Having said that I have only covered about 150 miles as both clutch and DMF were only changed this week. Could it be a case of letting things bed in?
