Heads up if you're interested. A report on Lancia taking in various models.

Jeremy may come to an interesting conclusion on which car to get.

On the other hand, he probably won't.

Looks to be a good line up. Hopefully they will give them the kudos they deserve cool

The shoot was sorted by CLS and the run around London by the LMC so you'll see cars from both clubs which is good.

I heard a rumour that they bust the engine on the Stratos (was it a Hawk with an Alfa engine?)??

Clarkson likes Lancias, so it should be positive.

Let's hope it's good - it should be tbh.
The cars Club LanciaSport got together for the shoot are not the sort of things you can dis credibly. The shoot was done in the Wales Rally site with Stratos, Fulvia, Delta and Rally 037. We also had the same cars at NEC MPH Top Gear show alongside a few more Fulvias.
Never seen so many people looking in classic Lancias before!
Roll on 29th Nov

I hope TG paid for it and the owner came out in the black eek Looking forward to it - 'bout time they had a bit of history on there !

Cue of course all the 'proles saying "that Stratos' was slower than a 2009 Golf GTI etc etc - can't be that great",like they did when the Integrale and M3 were on 5th Gear (?). Some people wouldn't know history if it hit them in the face.

NC: You can't really blame people for thinking the Stratos is worse than the Golf. Having been in a real one on the test track at Jaguar this year, it's not comparable in comfort or refinement - much as I loooove it. It cost as much as a Ferrari 308 GT4 and is miles away.

But it looks like Ed Strakers UFO and we love it.

We had a real one at the NEC - in fact the same car that was used for the supplementary London Top Gear shoot. When you tell folks it's 35 years old, had a cab-forward design before anyone had a clue what this meant and also blatted through forests as well just like Loeb and Hirvonen do now... you can't help but think "ahem, not too bad at all then".

Fingers crossed... eek... let's see what happens next week

Well if somebody wants to compare let them.

People forget that you had to be Sandro Munari to get the best out of a Stratos anyway, that was kind of the point of the thing. Ordinary Bob from Accounts would be dead if he tried to drive a Stratos quickly, you had to be a *God* to do it.

The point of competition Lancias isnt how quickly they are relative to anything else, its about their ultimate pace in the ultimate hands. Namely...nothing else ever devised on 4 wheels could catch them in anybodys hands.

God I love them!

I believe repair costs were supposed to be covered, but sadly there wasn't time to get a more powerful 24v engine in there smile

I will be fascinated to see what sort of time the car gets, just hope the weather lightens up a little for the day as a wet lap won't be quite so interesting.

Yes, The BBC, i.e. us hehe covered the costs. The car's owner reports the following:

Owner said:
Car is now sorted:

- New Engine, Gearbox and LSD
lower ratio Gearbox, and New Q2 LSD)

- Upgraded Replacement Front Calipers, new Pads and New Brake Servo

- New Coffin Spoke Wheels (Pained and Trimmed) and Tyres (Wet and Dry)
(Dunlop X22/ Michelin TBR mix: soft, semi-slicks, so should be fast in dry)

- New Light Pod and Auxiliary Spots Pods on front underside
(Makes it look much more Evil!)

- Bit of TLC on Bodywork, interrior, etc. to get it back to looking newish...

Gave the car a good "seeing to" at Bruntingthorpe Track for a couple of hours to test the engine, brakes, tyres, new fittings, etc. and all is running well....
FIngers crossed for good weather.

Yes... better dry

But rain and mud is fine for a rally car. Rain and nice slippery wet tarmac under huge Gp 4 wheels?

mmmmm

My license fee used for Strato's repairs? Yay! biggrin

I think the "Historical Drama" budget would seem apt wink

Edit to add: Weather report for Dunsfold for tomorrow looks dry.

Blib, I was one of the lucky people today to see your lovely TR7 wink

A question. Through the front "bonet" grille, I could see a small light - was it an alarm, or some other gizmo?

I won't spoil the show for others, but all I can say is: yikes handling!

And thanks to JP for getting much of it sorted for TG. thumbup

Ah, thanks for that. I had assumed it was yours from scanning the posts above and remembering you mention it in the pictures thread; I hadn't clicked your profile.

Actually I used to love them - a schoolfriend of mine's dad bought a black one soon after they first came out. He was immediately my best friend (my folks had 2 TR3s at the time), and let me play with the popup headlights for about half an hour.

Back to the Stratos rep... The Alitalia livery with the yellow Campag wheels was fantastic. But the Stig might take exception to the notion that the handling was... ahem... "neutral". wink

Hehe, it always amuses me when people think I am driving an utter deathtrap of a car because of the reputation it has, and look at me with a mix of worry and awe. If they re-enforce that image on Top Gear I should get even more funny looks biggrin

I keep meaning to print out a piece of A4 in big print to leave in the window with the answer to the questions everyone asks. Perhaps I should include:

Yes, it will swap ends in an instant.
No, so far I have always caught it.
