GT noise. What is it??

Hey all, just noticed a sort of sqweel a bit like what i would associate with a stretched fan belt. It seems to go away after time, possibly when the car heats up properly. Could this be anything else or am i just being paranoid?? Thanks for any help.

You are probably right, and it is the auxiliary belt. The belt doesn't go to the fans any more, but does drive the alternator which just after startup has a lot of work to do charging the battery back up. "Warmed up" is probably "battery now fully charged".

No idea why it happens at this time of year, perhaps cold rubber doesn't grip as well as warm rubber.

My 166 had the aux belt replaced last year, this year the Stratos is squealing. Thankfully it wasn't that expensive to have replaced.

Cheers for the advice pal Do you remember roughly how much it cost to get it changed?? Did you run the car for any length of time after you noticed the noise??
