Recent problem with the 10 disc autochanger on our Brera 2.4 -- it no longer plays whatever discs are in slots 7 and 9. I have given the cassette mechanism a blow-out and tried known working CDs in the troublesome slots but it won't play them. Other slots all work fine. Any ideas as to what may be wrong? We've had some low overnight temperatures lately (minus 10) and wondered if that might be the cause...

It's foooked.

You're lucky. Mine won't play any CD in any slot. (Alfa 156).

I replaced mine with an OEM Alfa iPod adapter cable, much better.

Oh dear... I think it's still under 3rd year Alfa warranty. Maybe it's covered...

My son managed to park up overnight with something draining the battery so had to call the AA out next day to charge his flat battery. Driving home, he discovered that the CD player had somehow been cured: all slots were working.

My initial reaction to this news was that the battery might have been slowly draining beforehand and that this somehow caused the partial failure of the CD player -- but the AA man reported that the battery was in A1 condition... So still a bit of a mystery but at least we now know to try disconnecting/reconnecting the battery if the CD player starts acting up again.

My next question is what could he have left on or open to cause the battery to drain completely overnight? Aren't there audible alerts if you try to lock the car with the lights on for example?

He would have to have deliberately left the parking lights on, as the headlights go out with the ignition.
Strange one. Favourite would be he left the boot open - very easy to accidentally pop it from the key fob, but I can't imagine one boot light would drain a JTD battery overnight.

If it's the original Alfa battery it will have "lights" in the top of it to indicate what state it's in - should show green if fully charged.

Incidentally I once had a problem with the Blue & Me freezing. The only way I could sort that was to disconnect the battery - handily the earth cable has a quick release clamp on it so they were obviously expecting it!
