I was going to buy one but chose a 2.0l instead. The 2.0l handles far better and isn't that much slower.

Does the 2.5 sound anywhere near as good as the 156 GTA?

I've got one. Love it. Engine note is lurrrvly

Compared to the GTA, you're right, no competition. Trouble is, you'll be hard pressed to pick up a decent GTA for around £6 grand.

Wonderful engine (well it looks nice).

All the stuff I have read about them in the 156 would point to the front end being a bit heavy and the 2.0 being a better buy. However you should drive both you never know which might be more your soerta thing.

People said the same thing about the handling of the wide bodied V6 155, I tried both the 4 and 6 cylinder cars and yes there was a difference but it was small, the 6 still handled superbly and the engine was awesome, I found I got pleasure all the time from the engine where as the handling diference was only noticable very occasionaly. Go for the V6, the engine is so good you won't regret it.

Same argument applies to the 916 GTV, so I can sense a pattern emerging...

Alfa V6 - the only way to travel!

If you go for the V6, it is definitely front heavy in standard form. The Veloce model is better (stiffer springs); or get a standard one and put some aftermarket springs on (about £400 but make all the difference). If you can afford the lower mpg of the V6, it's well worth it!

I have a manual lusso, and it is a great car, fast, sounds good and is a fast usable family car. The lusso is a little soft and it is front heavy which does make it more of a laugh when driven hard!! Never taken on the track, but I would suspect when really pushed the combinations of a heavy engine at the front with rather spongy suspension could catch you out, on the road I have yet to reach its limits and it is surprising that it feels better the more you push it. Under fast cornering it does roll quite a bit which at first is alittle alarming but keep you font down and it really is very good. I tested the 2.0ltr JTS as well which was a little slower and felt more balanced but I am glad I went for the v6 though.
