I'm looking for a car to replace my ageing daily and am considering a FIAT Idea as they're innocuous, seem to have a decent amount of space and aren't too dear on insurance.

What are they like on fuel? And which would be the better bet for c.17,000 miles p.a. - the petrol 1.4 or diesel 1.3?

Also, does anyone have any idea on their ability to stand up to constant use and occasional abuse?

Thanks,

F

I had one as a hire car in Italy and it was a decent wee car, they were based on the Mk 2 Punto so I suppose they are similar in many ways.
Both of the engines you mention are good but I would probably go for the diesel unless is costs a lot more to buy.

Stretched Panda with more toys as standard. Not a bad little big car.

DO IT.
A really under rated little car, it's such a shame we didn't get the 1.9jtd over here.
We ran a 1.3 jtd for a little while even took it to Spa, not exactly earth shattering performance but a decent and honest car.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I had a look on FIAT's website for them and they don't seem to be overly plentiful but what they have seem to represent good value whilst being the size of car I need.

They're as far from flash as it's possible to get, which suits me just fine.
