Hi everyone, I bought an Alfa 156 2.0 TS veloce yesterday, drove it home and then to brighton and back (probably 100 miles ish in total) and when dirving back from the pub in the evening the fuel injection light has come on (and stayed on) The light was not on when i bought the car as this was something i new to check. When i started the car to see if the light was still on this morning (which it was) i also noticed a "ticking" noise from the engine that also did not seem apparent when i picked the car up.

Can anyone help? Can i drive the car or not? I didnt drive it this morning to be on the safe side. I have tried to call various Alfa specialists for an opionion but they are all closed as its good friday.

The car was bought from a dealer, but the warrenty that it came with is pretty limited and im not sure this would be covered, but obvisouly will be calling him at some point today as it isnt right that a car should fail the same day that i buy it mad

Can anyone help?

James

Low fuel pressure?
Maybe needs a new filter or at worst fuel pump. If the car's been stood about for any lengh of time then it could just be an air lock in the fuel lines. Have a thrash and see if this solves it. As for the noise probably nothing you're just a bit more sensetive because of your heightened state of awareness due to panicing about the light.

Either that or the car's knackered. Get onto the dealer chap. smile

Lol, thanks hehe . I'm worried about giving it a thrash, due to certain sources on the net saying not to drive it all if the light is on. Thanks for the tips, i will be calling the dealer on my lunch break. I really hope its nothing too expensive!

Other then this issue i'm loving the car, great ride, handles well (although sometimes shows its weight), lovley interior, nice bit of poke and god sound. I'm annoyed this has sullyed by first day of alfa ownership

How many miles has the car done and when was the cam belt changed? The rattling could be the variator which should be replaced at a cam belt change.

The warning light really needs a diagnostic check to see what is up. It could be the crankshaft sensor is on its way out. Did the car go into limp home mode or did you get restricted revs? It could also be the MAF. Don't be tempted to buy a cheap one off eBay, it will fail again in short order, get a good one.

If you're thinking of keeping the car it's well worth getting a copy of AlfaDiag and a laptop cable. All the info you need is on Alfaowner, it's a very good site.

It was done at 67,000, car is now on 82,000, but it was quite a while ago. Car didnt go into limp mode, and no restricted revs i think. I will probably take it to a garage to be checked out, i'm not handy enough to do it myself really, but i just need to know if i can drive the car without damaging anything further.

Get it on a diagnostic before you do much else. It may be something as silly as an elderly and below par battery, but it could be more serious and have the potential to develop into a wallet worrying episode.

Personally I'd be dropping it back at the dealers and suggesting he returns my money. I love my Alfa but boy do they like to eat into bank accounts!
