Could be the MAF or anything really.

Is everything working as it should?

Does the car stutter, not rev properly, what is the water temp sitting at?

thanks for the answer
i have now booked it into Alfa Workshop for repairs. i thought it might be a blown motor, but it sounds like it's something in the engine sensors (motor = engine?). It seems to drive ok, water temp ok etc.

Has it flashed up the message on the screen. Check your battery first, Alfas are very sensitive to a low charge. If its the original battery then its probably passed its best. Hope this helps.

Mine has been on for a while - its a lambda sensor in my case, but can be caused by umpteen things! If your car is running ok then I wouldn't panic, but best to get it onto diagnostics and see what is amiss.

thanks for the replies.
the message flashes up when I start the engine and then the engine management light stays on. Battery has a green "good" indicator, but i will check the charging volts tomorrow. It's due a service soon, so i'll get everything checked out.

car now fixed - turned out to be a computer hic-up. reset and now good.

I'm new to Alfa ownership and it sounds like i have a lot to look forward to!
