What do you Alfisti's think of this GTV Cup?

http://www.veloces.co.uk/reg/O0CL3RG

Its at Veloce's and I took it for a test drive yesterday. It feels taught, apparently had everything done to it and will be perfect when sold.

The MD dealt with me, Paul, and he seemed a top bloke, very accommodating and helpful and even offered me a test drive without me asking. Overall, I'd be happy to deal with them and have them continue to look after the car if i bought it.

The only thing that concerns me is mileage, I'd probably want to keep it atleast 3 years but its already at 84k. What do you guys think?

If its not this Cup, it will be another, as I have definitely fallen for it!

Veloces can be expensive (although their cars are always good), but thats a decent price for a cup, with a very decent history. well worth it IMHO

Hi, i viewed that cup when the private owner was selling it at £3500 on autotrader a couple of months ago. Check the front end out, it has been repaired after a collision with a police car according to the then owner. It had overspray in the wheel arches. The ac was faulty, might be ok now and it was still on original rear suspension/clutch and exhaust. The owner also had the radiator changed after an overheating problem and on test driving i found it to be down on response/power, which again the owner admitted to and had tried fuel additives etc.( i have a v6 gtv so was in a position to compare)
Be careful at that price as there are a few about with much lower mileages.

Really? thats a bit of a jump from £3500 to £7k! It looked a really nice example when i looked but I didnt examine it that closely.

I guess I'll hang back a bit and find a perfect one frown

Yeah, if you look at the alfa owners forum, the car has been discussed there (search by its cup no. from memory i think it was 113).

I know nothing about that particular car, however, whilst I appreciate the rarity of the 'cup' for £2k less you can get a V6 of the same age with less mileage, with good history etc.

I suppose it is a matter of taste, but I personally don't like the cup bodykit and side vents.

In saying that, they still look good and the engine is excellent so if you find a good one I don't think you will be disappointed!

yes Same here. You can get exactly the same mechanical package in a standard GTV V6 with plenty of change to refresh any bits and pieces that need it, and the basic shape looks so much better without all the 'Cup' adornments.

I was in the same position a few months ago. I was looking for a Cup but came to the conclusion that as nice as they are, they're not worth the premium. For the same price as a 2002 Cup with 70k+ miles I bought a 2004 V6 with 24k miles. Same colour and goes just as well wink

Would that be a facelift model? I really dont like the phase 3 model with the new alfa nose. I love the Cup kit, and I think i'd be disappointed with not having one but then again, I suppose i could find a minter and stick the kit on...

so GX337 - are you talking about that Cup in the link or another one?

If you like the Cup, you should get one. Making a mock cup-a-like out of a normal V6 would be the worst of the three options, I think. smile

No, mine is a phase 2. Apparently was supposed to be exported to Oz but never made it onto the boat for some reason, so it sat in a dealership for a while before finally being registered and sold. Pic on my profile.

I agree with this! If it is a cup you really want, then it will be worth the premium to you! In addition to this, I think the cup kit may be hard to come by and the parts will always be a slightly different shade as they will have aged differently to the car you have etc..etc...!

Good luck OP!!

I think I agree with both of you as well! I'd always look at it knowing its not a cup if I did stick a kit on it.

I'm going to take my time and find a nice, low mileage one with a full history. Whatever the premium over a normal one, it should hopefully keep that premium...

You should be able to get what you want for 6-7k, low milesge etc. I always prefer to buy privately for cars that sort of age as you can always see how a car has been maintained after seeing and speaking to the owner.
I can tell you the cup we have been referring to was not enthusiast owned so did not have regular oil checks etc, and all the tyres were budget brands i have never heard of.

Nice one mate, thats great advice! I'm not really in a position to buy right now as I'm starting a new job on monday and need to get the transition period out of the way but I thought this was a good one seeing as it appeared to have good history! shows you how wrong i was...

I shall keep you helpful lot updated as to when (not if!) I find the perfect one for me!

Now... what bike rack for a GTV?? wink

My 156 SW came from Veloces & they were very honest to deal with & I was happy dealing with them.
