Hi chaps,

I'm currently looking for a car to replace my 1-series company car. My budget is a max of 3k and I cant really justify spending more than £150 per month for insurance (19 years old).

I have been looking at GTV 2.0 TS. They are stunning cars, and really do appear to fit the bill. However the car has to be reliable enough to get me to work and back every day, covering around 15k miles per year. Are these cars as unreliable as the stigma attached to the brand suggests? What are running costs like?

Should I buy one?

Check the insurance first - it's a group 17, so your premiums might just be excessive.

Otherwise, yes, £3k will get you a decent GTV and if you get one that's been looked after, it won't cost you a fortune to look after. You can definitely find a good Ph 2, post 98 for that money and the interior is just lovely in comparison to the more plasticky ph 1.

There's a load of buying guides around - look on alfaowner.com in the technical guide for 916 GTV/spider.

The main issue will be insurance rather than running costs, provided that the rear suspension and subframe are in good nick and that the cambelt / tensioners have been changed early.

I've checked insurance and it comes in under budget (just!)

I will go and look on some alfa sites, thanks for your help!
