TVR to Alpha ??????
Discussion
Hi Folks
I have been in the world of TVR for the last four years with a T350C then a Sagaris. The Sagaris is in the process of been sold and moving back to the UK !!
I love every thing about the Italians even though they can be a pain in the a... to deal with !! and always liked Alphas. (quite fancy the Brera and the 500 Abarth to)
My question is have any of you guys out there gone from TVR to Alpha and if so what have you gone for and how is the transformation !!??
One last thing I am looking to spend about 15K as the excess from the Sag is going to help a new house purchase !
Cheers

I've had 2 TVRs and 3 Alfa Romeos.
As said, chalk and cheese. The 75 was relatively cheap (although not to me at the time) and enormous fun. However, TVRs are sports cars - they're noisy, uncomfortable and impractical. Designed for hooning to a high degree. Alfas are for the most part family saloons, rubber bushes, soundproofing, 4 seats, driver aids and airbags (my current 156 has 12!).
I love both marques, but my skin doesn't tingle with anticipation when I jump in the Alfa (Usually I just think "what a beautiful interior") and I am slighlty deflated when the engine starts (I miss the V8 and V6s).

on a serious note , i think the problem is that if you frequent a petrolhead type website , you should at least be able to spell the names of some of the most historic marques correctly as it tends to annoy their followers a tad

now can we all play nicely and get along ?
i have both,
i love the TVR for noise and raw power
i love the alfa GT for comfort, smoothness and the torque from the diesel is great ,the servicing costs are on a par with most cars and spares are available at reasonable cost if you shop around.

I also have both, a Chimaera and a 156 2.0 JTS Veloce as a daily driver. There are 'similarities'! The Alfa looks good inside and out; build quality is reasonable, there are no rattles or squeaks, but the (facelift) interior on the 156 looks great. It's a special place to sit, with cowled dials, those 3 circular auxiliary instruments in the centre of the dash facing the driver, and red illumination that looks like you're going night flying rather than driving. I sat in a mate's E46 BMW 330 the other day, and reckoned it looked really bland and characterless compared to the Alfa.
On the road, the Alfa appealed as a 'daily' with direct and high-geared steering (it's something like 2.1 turns lock-lock). The Veloce spec has firm, yet decently damped suspension. I don't think that it's too harsh. The V6 in earlier cars is a peach, although I ended up with the 4-pot JTS. Throttle response is a tad slow, drive-by-wire throttle, but the engine sounds reasonably rorty for a mainstream car.
There are niggles and the odd quirk, but you'll feel at home with those after the Tiv! The bottom line is that an Alfa is a slightly left-field, individual and quite classy choice amongst a sea of mainstream Mondeos, Astras and the like. It has kudos amongst other petrolheads. There are times when I've mentally considered my Alfa to be the poor, boring everyday relation to my TVR, yet people have commented "Oh, cool, you have an Alfa!" when I've turned-up in it. It's a feelgood car.

Wow, I thought I was in the minority having both an Alfa and a Tiv! By the looks of this thread there are way more people out there than I thought; top stuff! Workmates think I'm nuts having two 'unreliable' cars!
I've got a T350c and a 147 and as others have said, they are like chalk and cheese. Having said that though, they do have very obvious similarities: both have an undeserved (at least in my case) reputation for being unreliable and both have bags of character that I haven't been able to find in any other car.
I wouldn't swap either of them for anything!

Well thanks for the nice reply's but not to the not nice one's. In the Isle of Man we have our own Goverment and legislation, we are seperate to the UK in many ways. In fact we spell differently to you also, here we spell Alpha like "ALPHA" not Alfa.
LOL !! Forums are interesting and can be helpful but some folk are so touchy ! lol
Keith I do remember you from a couple of years ago when I had my 350 in Douglas the roar of all the TVR's was cool and from inside I new it was you guys before I saw you.
) I have enjoyed the Sag but do not get time to use it. I have Sundays off only and prefere to use my bikes at present so poor Sag needs to go to a good home and be used instead of sat in my garage.
Sagaris is sold and will be delivered to the UK after TT week. So looking for some think just to bomb around in the odd evening or when I am free on a Sunday.
Focus RS has come into the picture now also as I may share a car with my other half.
Cheers
