Hi,

After my first Alfa breakdown last Friday, the diagnosis is the fuel pump.

Is this a common failure?

My question is do I;

a) Buy genuine at £179.91 less trade discount.

b) Buy non-genuine at approx £95.00.

C) Buy used/second hand for approx £30.00.

Obviously, I want to spend as little as possible... but I don't want to fork out for another pump if it goes again.

Any help/advise/experiences greatly received.

Many thanks,

Darren.

I haven't heard of many fuel pumps going on the 156, I would personally be tempted by a £30 one, especially if you can fit yourself.

Agree with the comment above, not a common failure afaik so get hold of a low mileage second hand pump.

Thanks guys.

I've purchased a used pump from a local breaker for £25.
Just gotta drop the fuel tank to fit it now....

Just spotted this. I hope you didnt drop the tank? There is no need. Just the seat cushion out.

Sadly they are becoming a common problem, had the conversation with alfa specialist as he had 156 with same problem.

Buying a 2nd hand one is false economy.....altho wouldn't buy oe one as complete unit normally just get a bosch aftermarket one.

Hi,

Problem all sorted now.

The fault was actually a loose ECU wire, rectified by the main dealer.

Luckily, i didn't drop the tank/fit the fuel pump before a chat with guys at Meridien.

Just the air con to sort out now.... haha.

Cheers for the advice.

Darren.
