Alfa Spyder 1750TBi - any good?
Discussion
Now I've sold the R8 I'm thinking of a nice soft top to waft around in. Local dealer has ex-demo one of these in white with tan leather with 500 miles on the clock which I'm thinking of taking for a test drive next week.
The Qs I have are:
1) Not bothered about crisp handling as want a relaxed cruiser - would this do the job?
2) What's reliability like?
3) The car is up at £27,950 - Is that about right?
Cheers!

Sorry to be a pedant but it is an ongoing problem over here!
I'm sure there are a few on here with the new Spider (Euroboy etc) so surprised no response yet. I would try Alfaowner.com if you don't get any answers. Would be worth joining once you get an Alfa anyway.
Good luck
Cheers - I'm in email discussion with Euroboy. Took the car for a test drive earlier - engine very flexible with quite a bit of low grunt and a lovely cabin.I'm sure there are a few on here with the new Spider (Euroboy etc) so surprised no response yet. One major problem was the ride quality - the car was constantly jiggering around even on a straight smooth road. Having had a Boxster and SLK which were very tight not sure if this is an Alfa thing.
I asked the sales guy if normal (he had to stay in showroom so did not come out with me) and he said he'd get a technician to look at it in case alignment wrong or maybe tire pressures all wrong (it's been standing for a month).
Without that ride I would buy one so keen to know if what I experienced was normal.
Cheers
Gary
I've got a Brera on 18" wheels and tyre pressures do makes a huge difference to the ride quality. You may find the SpIder was on 19" so it maybe even worse. Alfa tend to recommend very high pressures and you find most people just do the "Oh it'll be 33 all round" thing based on when they had an Astra in 1988. I'm not saying you'll turn it into a Jaguar, but the ride comfort should be pretty good.

It was on 19" wheels. I'm not expecting a Jag but the ride I experienced would make me seasick after an hours driving - it was shocking. I am hoping it was pressures and that test drive 2 later this week (assuming it was not normal) will be much better.euroboy said:
Hi Gary ,
Ill reply in here now, didnt realise you had a topic going.
That doesnt sound right about the ride; they do suffer from scuttle shake more than the equivalent Audi TT or Z4, but I never found it to be horrific.
One of the abiding memories I have of the car is infact how sure footed and stable the car was (albeit I had the JTDm, so was probably heavier upfront).
As mentioned they are extremely sensitive to tyre pressure and should be run on extra load rated tires - although if its ex-demo with only 500 miles I cant see that being the issue.
TBH the price sounds about right - certainly not cheap, but not overpriced either. The TBi is the new engine so I guess they can get away with that sort of RRP for now.
I loved my Spiders and my White/Tan one was just a peach, never put a foot wrong; any excuse to post a piccy!

That's exactly the colour combo I took out. It is a stunning car. I just really hope they screwed up the pressures and that I'll enjoy it as I hoped next time out!Ill reply in here now, didnt realise you had a topic going.
