Today i purchased a high mount rear cycle rack from Halfords for my wife's Fiat 500. When i got it home she had gone to work so i decided to see if it would fit on the abarth.

Other than the normal issues about pads rubbing on the paint it seems to fit ok. My biggest concern was the spoiler but due to it being a high mounted one there is enough clearance. The rear straps are attached to the metal bumper fixing mounts and there is a little bit of pressure on the defuser but not loads.

Took it for a 5 mile drive over motorway and a / b roads and didn't seem to budge.

Bit of a bonus that it fits on my car (and i assume it will fit on the Fiat 500)

Can anyone think of any other issues

Was also looking for a rear bike rack for my Panda 100HP (the bike is also a Carrera Fury - which is great). However, it would definitely foul the rear spoiler and I'm surprised that it doesn't put any pressure onto the 500 spoiler.

Luckily, with the front wheel off and the front seat way forward, the bike fits.. just..

Yikes, I wouldn't go a mile with that, let alone further. I had something similar many years ago that I used on a Fiat Uno and it scraped the hell out of the paint and pulled up the edge of the tailgate slightly too. Your setup seems to overhang a lot past the sides too, driver's side especially - perfect to get in the way of oncoming traffic.

Thule make proper roofbars to fit the 500 - I wouldn't hesitate to take those over that contraption.

The Paint thing was an issue but with roof bars they would do exactly the same.

The Width thing is a good point!

I think it would be better to spin the bike around and take the rear wheel off so that it isn't protruding as much. (also i think the pic makes it look worse)

This was for the wife's car . . i was thinking about getting the roof bars still for the abarth i was just testing the water if it would fit on mine! as her car has a glass roof so roof bars are a no go

Regarding pressure on the spoiler, there is non i manages to sit an inch or two above it . . . as i was fully expecting it to put weight onto it

Do the wheels fit in the boot? might be an option.

I had one of these on my Astra coupe. and they do rub the paint. I was thinking about putting some clear protection film down on the boot lid.

In your case i would at least put something soft under the touch points.

Looks good - I've used a very similar thing on my car:

No rubbing, no marking and not a problem if fitted properly - just check it after a few miles - the noises you'll hear from it are far worse than you'll think they are...
