Beta Volumex service advice please!
Discussion
Hi,
A friend of mine has just picked up an '85 Beta coupe Volumex. I'm going to give him a hand servicing it on friday but just wanted to ask a couple questions beforehand..
1) It hesitates badly at 5k and above (and i do mean badly) he's been told this is likely to be the carb needing a good service, is this good advice for these cars? He's bought a service kit for it from Dellorto, are these carbs reasonably straight forward to service? (ive got twin DCOE 40's for my MG Midget, don't know if there are any similarities though).
2) I def think that getting the ignition sorted before looking at fueling with issues like this is the way to go but i does seem to be running rich (lots of popping and banging on it on the overrun,(seems to have an aftermarket exhaust), any tips or is this normal for a Beta VX?
3) The fan seems to work when it feels like it, having had a brief look under the bonnet the electrics seem to be an Italian-British Leyland love child (something im used to with my MGs) is there anything to look out fr specificaly or just carry on as I might on my own MGs?
Would be great to get it running smoothly, it sounds fantastic until the hesitation ruins the fun!
Thanks in advance!
Neil
