Looking for a decent 156 twin spark to possibly replace our mondeo st200, mainly to kurb fuel costs etc a bit. What are the 1.6 and 1.8 models like on fuel? I owned a v6 a while back and liked it, and think a ts would fit the bill nicely. Missus didn't get on with momo leather though! any thoughts?

Early 30s economy wise would seem to be the norm. Much better than the V6 of course! The 1.6 would be a false economy though IMHO, I had one in the 147 and it didn't set the world alight, doubt it would have the potency to haul around a bigger car; the need to thrash it everywhere to make progress would have a detrimental effect on consumption.

I used to get about 360 to 380 miles per tank out of my 2ltr TS 156. Can't remember the tank size off hand to work out the MPG though confused.

Cheers. I've heard the 1.6TS is a bit pointless as the fuel you would have saved goes on thrashing the engine to haul it around! A 1.8 or diesel maybe the best bet. Seem to be a few 2.4JTD's around, are they worth a look?

As I have said before - the 2.4JTD engine does sound nice for a diesel and has a good slug of torque which can be addictive. The growl of the engine is great.

Real world mpg is about 38mpg pootling around the Isle of Wight or about 43mpg on a decent motorway run.

Not sure about mpg from the 1.8 engines??

Used to have a 2000 1.8TS. Got about 400-420 miles from a tank if i recall correctly - Mix of driving styles so figures thats real world (town/motorway/b road/gentle and heavy driving)

This thread gives you a few answers but personally i got 34mpg all the time. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Having run my first Alfa ( a 2000 1.8 TS ) for about 10,000 miles in 6 months, I get about 30-31 mpg on a 70 mile motorway commute...lowest ( or best !) was 28mpg to Scotland on 'A' roads.
Shell V Power ( 99 octane ?) does help but you tend to use the extra power so the gain in any mpg is minimal !
