Currently for sale: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1901183.htm

Just wondered what the view is?

Have emailed the seller regards usual MOT, Tax, HPI, accidents, details of service history.

However any other views on price, spec etc?

Seems about right on the price, I guess it depends on condition. I'm looking for a 147 at the moment and I'd be asking when the cambelt was done (as it's now 36k miles or 3 years) and also confirm whether it's a manual or Selespeed (ad doesn't say).

Test drive and listen for supension knocks and creaks (low mileage example I test drove a couple of weeks back sounded like a creaky bed) which will be something to haggle on.

Only other comment is the aftermarket exhaust; insurance implications (if declared) and someone more judgemental than myself might suggest that the car has spent too many evening in a Maccy D's car park?

Cambelt done at 55k, has he the receipt and did they do the variator, the exhaust on these cars, well the back box are huge ugly and rust easily, not surprised it has aftermarket, possibly looked at the price of original kit and thought for the same money i can have a better noise/quality and looks.smile

Thanks for the responses.

Have emailed asking not only what was done and when and a few more bits and pieces. Will wait for a response.

Given i'm emailing from Oz he probably thinks i'm a scammer and wont respond smile

Well got this response back:

Q: It would be great if you could you provide an outline of when it has been serviced and where, and in addition who did the cambelt service and what date it was done.

A: All services are up to date, all done at desira southgate, alfa specialists

Q: In addition would you be able to provide an overview of any other work done. I've had Alfas before so sometimes the more work the better, so feel free to be as detailed as possible.

A: They didnt answer

Q: Could you also confirm when the tax and MOT are due, if it is HPI free and if it has ever been in accident.

A: No accident, think mot due December 2010. No HPI. Never been in accident.

Q: Finally when did you purchase the car? in 2002,
A: i am 2nd owner from new.

for some reason i'm not feeling overly confident but a bit more elaboration by the owner might help.

Hmm, I wouldn't be happy with those answers either. As for HPI, if you can get the reg from the owner I'll do an Experian search on it for you.

It doesn't inspire much confidence with those limited answers in my book & whats with having just 1 image of the car?...If you've made the effort to walk out the door with a camera why can't you walk round the car point & shooting?!confused

That was my view. My questions were direct and to the point and i got semi answers but a bit vague.

I also dont want to play to sterotypes but the name of the email (Sareen)didnt match the name on the ad (Zak) which didnt match the person writing the email (Pam). Probably all fine as i know some people 'westernise' their names but still, a bit complex.

As you also say, photos a bit limited.

I'm in Oz and trying to sort out a car to view and make a quick buy on for when i return to the UK early october, hence replying to that ad. Might have to just wait till I land.

I would be tempted to give the number on the ad a call (or, as you are in Oz, see if someone you know over here would mind doing it for you?). I think this would be a better way to gauge the sellers authenticity, though I do agree that the email responses are somewhat poor. I just dont understand why some people are so brief when selling car... I mean, you are asking people to part with a large chunk of their hard earned money, the least you can do is give them full and complete information, right?!

I am thinking of a 147 for my next car also so would be intreagued as to any other 'look out for' points on the cars!

I'd responded to the sellers email and requested details of if the variator had been done at the same time as the cambelt change. In addition i'd requested service dates and mileage.

Today i got back a response it had been sold.

The adverts still up on here, but they might just not have taken it down yet. Anyway, looks like this ones gone unless anyone fancies calling and seeing if it really is sold, or whether the seller was being evasive...
