Anyone use a GT 1.9 JTDm for towing
Discussion
I'm seriously thing about a GT diesel. I will however (3 round trips avg 300m in the next year or so) have the occaisional need to tow a trailer with a 1000kg sportscar on it.
All up weight is 1500kgs max. for the car on a 4.2m long Brian James A series trailer.
Despite the 1300kg "recommended" max towing weight the GT has a gross train weight of 3185kgs, whihc less the kerb weight leaves 1820kgs for payload.
Has anyone used a GT to tow, does it cope well?
I really don't want a 159.

The "recommended" towing weight is (certainly here in Belgium) a legal maximum permitted towing weight.
You really don't want to be exceeding this at all - the trailer will start pushing the car, and you could end up in a nasty accident.
The fact that you don't tow frequently could work either for or against you - if you tow frequently you get more used to how the car/trailer combination performs (but can lead to complacency) - whereas if you tow infrequently you can either be very careful (and have no problems) or not have enough experience to handle a problem if it arises.
