Alfa 156 - Removing the 'big stupid rear wing'

How easy is it to remove the big stupid rear wing that comes on some 156's, and if you remove it does it leave 2 great big screw holes/painted holes?

I think the easiest/best way is to try and find a new bootlid in the correct colour and then sell your old winged lid on Ebay. Be careful, I think the facelift bootlid is different from the earlier cars.

No not mine but looks great apart from the wing.

Those big wings are like 3 tits on a woman. Sounds great in theory but looks so wrong in practice.

I think the pre facelift bootlid will fit your car.

Although not quite the same, I'd consider it as IMO the facelift front is lovely but the facelift boot has some weird creasing going on.

The earlier boot will fit but will only raise questions come resale, may be an issue with tail light lens coulours matching though. If you get a car in one of the more popular colours shouldn't be hard to find a breaker with one. The spoiler leaves 4 holes when removed, wouldn't be a huge job to fill the holes and repaint the bootlid.

When the 156 came out I loved these wings but they just look naff now, the low level 3 post spoiler looks even worse, however the very rare lip spoiler that fits flush to the boot lid looks quite cool IMO.

It will definitely leave two big holes each side when you remove it.

If you want to, as per previous advice, find another boot.

I had exactly the same issue with my old 2.5V6.

I sold the spoiler on ebay, but the guy didn't want the boot, so I bought a lid from autolusso. Can't remember how much, less than £50 I think.

You will be left with 4 holes IIRC, two on each side.

Hmmm... Putting my neck on the line to stand up for the 'big stupid rear wing'!!

I think it looks awesome on my car, in Alfa red with silver 'Ti' style mirrors.

A friend and fellow Alfa owner believes it too be an age issue?

I to like the spoiler, and if I could find a Fantazia Azzuro owner with a spoiler that did not want one... I would happily swap it FOC for him/her!!

I am 33 by the way and think that they look lovely, because they were a factory option and not some after market - bolt on - look at me I am magnetised my car and drive through Halfords tat!!!!

Cheers for the responses. Seems to be easier just to find one without the wing. I would think if you found a non-spoilered boot from another vehicle and fit it as a replacement you run the risk of colour mismatch, perhaps especially with Red.
