Most trusted sources for an Integrale?
Discussion
I have been hankering after a 'Grale for a few years and kept putting it off; when I started work this was the car I wanted and clearly could not afford! In the last couple of years Top Gear and the general positive rep of the car has doubled prices. Live and learn... I have read the other thread on prices but am asking a slighly different question.
From whom should I buy if what I want is impeachable quality, kosher mileage etc? There seems rumour of "iffy" imports, clocked cars and generally of johnny come lately dealers riding the value wave. Where does a chap go to get a cast iron car (if you see what I mean)? I'm thinking Walkers as the obvious stop, but am I missing anyone else? I know there are a few other specialists, but they seem to get mixed reviews (ignoring the new dealers, perhaps unfairly - tell me if I'm wrong here). I'm also aware of the specialist workshops who would add credibility to history of a private car.
Any input gratefully received. I'm looking at lowish, but not silly low, mileage, probably Evo 2, one of the Ltd editions good if that helps.
Thanks, James

I don't know much about the johnny come lately "specialists", but I would trust Keith at AutoIntegrale and John Whalley.
Personally, my preference would be to get a private car from an enthusiast who has spared no expense, and have it inspected carefully at AI or JW.
Lots of good info on evocorner over on the Delphi forums, and they're not afraid to dish the dirt.

Hi James
In terms of Evo 2's if you look what is about at the moment I would rather invest in either of the 2 Walkers cars (Monza or Lord Blue) than any of the lower mileage cars from the dealers selling Deltas at the moment. A Walkers sourced car will always command respect and maybe a premium if you ever come to sell and you will have the peace of mind that it will have been sourced well and therefore a less risky purchase in the first place. Other places worth enquiring at are Tanc Barratt, Auto Integrale, John Whalley and Performance Legends.
Key thing with integrales is history and condition rather than mileage....
Evo 2's do seem to command a substantial premium over the Evo 1. Not 100% why but there were a lot fewer built and they generally are better put together. Many people prefer the bigger turbo on the earlier car as its a bit more dramatic, plus purists will tell you the Evo 1 was the last car to be used in competition.
If you do buy privately I would recommend 100% you get one thoroughly checked.

Thanks chaps. I have to say that I rather like the look of the Verde York at Walkers. Not cheap, but looks in lovely condition, very original and with leather/Evo2 type seats (I'm not such a big fan of the fluffy alcantara). I will see how my car fund looks in a few weeks and keep an eye out. Sooner or later I will buy one of these!

Hmmmmmm, Walkers have a good rep for Integrales, though I have seen some real mingers for silly money.I remember seeing a Lagos blue one for £25000 (this is 4-5 years ago in the showroom leaking oil all over the place. Another one a Monza EVO1 with the biggest rust scab (of all places on the drivers door just below the handle) and the car again was silly money.
Saying that they do know their stuff and seemed great people. After all I'm sure the Lagos would have the oil leak repaired before sale, but you would have thought it would have been done before being displayed.
When I was really into grales a few years back, I was informed or it was pretty much general knowledge that Walkers, especially Whalley and to a lessor point Zagato were the men in the know.
It was suggested to me at the time Auto Integrale and especially Tanc Barrett were not so glued up then ........ but this is like I said quite a few years ago.
Just my tupence worth.....
I bought two integrales from Wa*kers, and both checked by the AA. The first I was advised not to buy due to a bent shell
Wa*kers advised they were not aware of the fact. They promised me a second car, which I bought, then had nothing but problems with it. They eventually bought it back from me.
I now have one I have had for 10 years.
Tanc is very good for cars and spares, I also believe Auto Integrale is good.

Yeah I know what you mean, they know alot about Integrales but I was a little shocked at the quality and prices asking for some of them at the time.I bought two integrales from Wa*kers, and both checked by the AA. The first I was advised not to buy due to a bent shell

Just glad someone else said it first.
Tanc Barrett? Blimey he's had some real mingers over the years. But I'm guessing most of those are now bean tins.

Owning an Integrale and talking to John Whalley (who REALLY knows his stuff!) body cracking is semi common place either side under the front windscreen. Its because if the power output on Evo 2's. There are some genuinely good ones out there like mine but they are few and far between which is why the values are going bonkers.I bought two integrales from Wa*kers, and both checked by the AA. Admit it you're just trying to push prices down a bit as you know they are one of the best cars ever made for driving pleasure and driving to the limit on the road.
Bigup for Keith at Auto Integrale.
Having run an Evo 1 for over 12 years now, he would be the only person I would trust with my car-although I have mine serviced by an independant person.
Walkers? No chance.
I would be expecting an Evo very very very carefully now if I was buying one. To many total sheds out there and personally well over price as well for the top ones.

What about the white 16v integrale at Auto-Integrale (Keith)?
The one that is for sale for 6k (isn't it cheap?)
Has anyone checked on it? Is it really in a good condition as it looked in the pictures?

Hi, asume you are talking about my white 16v at autointegrale, the car is a very straight car,i was going to keep it ,but i've purchased another 16v,to which Keith at Autointegrale is building me an engine, hoping for a strong 400 bhp, the car is getting prepared at keith's at the moment , and should be ready early next year, all the mods on the white 16v were carried out by Keith,so best to give him a call for more details, tel- 0118 9710281.looking to boost my 16V somewhere up to that figure and want to have an idea on what shall be done.

cheers paul,
AutoIntegrale are pretty damn good. If you sell an Integrale you will often find prospective buyers will tell you that they use Keith to look the cars over.
Walkers are *the* name. They will do you a top service and prep your car. They will cost though. Would I buy from them? No, Ive seen enough there that I dont think they put the prep work into cars they just sell. On a cpl of Lancs and an SZ.
Tanc B. If you need spares, the man to go to.
John W again the other longstanding name of repute in the UK alongside Walkers.
I will say one thing about Walkers. North Allerton is in the middle of nowhere, this means it is a pain to get to. It also means that you could get the chance to pick your nicely fettled 'Grale up in winter time, with snow lying about, relatively light traffic and on some of the best roads in England...You do the math
