Is the selespeed box any good, as from what ive read everyone seems to call them sillyspeed, I asume thats because there not very good? is the Q-system any better or are they boyh to be avoided,

avoid .. the new DSG gearboxes completely outclass them (I've owned both)

I owned one for just over three years and never had a problem with it.

But I also know others who have had nothing but trouble.

there's no point in taking the risk . especially as they're knocking on a bit now. There is nothing to be gained (unless you are unable to use conventional gears) and potentially a lot to lose (if it goes wrong it will very probably cost more than the car is worth to have fixed)

I never had any trouble with the selespeed but it's so dull-witted that any attempt at enthusiastic driving is frustrated by it's slothful responses. The blipped throttle downshifts are a bit better-but not much. Combine this with the huge potential to go expensively wrong & it's best avoided.
