Alfa 156 temperatures
Discussion
Had a look under bonnet today. It seems the fan resistor has been bypassed by a 80Amp fuse. So does this mean there is no slow fan? When the slow fan come on will it be at the fast speed?
I have just had my thermostat changed (as it was staying cold). I believe the temperature sensor for the ecu is built in? If so then that should be ok. When left to idle the fan kicks in when the temp gauge shows halfway between 90 and the red sector. Seems very high but i'm new to this car. I believe the slow and fast fan is controlled by the ecu and not the usual radiator switch? Any thought guys?

When I frist bought my 156 the resistor on the fan housing was knackered and it had no low-speed fan. You can get a replacement at:

The high speed fan always worked regardless, but I'd reccommend putting a new resistor in.

As my Stat is brand new and the car just serviced i assume all ok? I have not since done a straight run where i would expect the temp to hover around <90. I would expect (as with other cars i've had incl Alfa 164s) that the fan would come in just over 90-95? Since my fan resistor is by passed with the 80A fuse then it should remain cooler as when the slow fan turns on it will simply be fast without the resistor?
If the resistor was not present/open circuit then the slow fan would not work and the only the fast fan would work at a higher temp. However since the 80A fuse is there temp should be even cooler earlier?
