Hello all,

Having spent the last 4ish years driving my RenaultSport Clio 182 (Gordini). I felt I needed a change. This car has been one of the best I have owned. A French car that has never let me down!!! But with the extra milage I am doing, it is not that great on long runs.

So having owned an unusual car like this and looking at the usual suspects (Audi,BMW,VW). I decided I wanted another unreliable expensive to fix car, but instead of French, this time I wanted Italian.

Today I went out and bought a 8 month old Alfa Romeo 159 Ti 2.0 Diesel Sportwagon.
It has all the Ti spec with the addition of Leather, Sat Nav, tinted windows, silver roof rails, cargo nets (?), deep pile mats and the Carbonio black paint.

It was love at first sight and my partner drove it and wanted it right away.
We collect the car next week from the dealer, then I am taking it to Wales for a couple of days before leaving it at an airport for a week as I am away on business! frown

I will add pics once I get a chance. But is there any advice from owners on what to look out for? Or any mods that will aid the car? I cant remap it as it will void the warranty.

Its such a difference from the Clio, but I am so excited about it!

Thanks, like I said, it's so different to the Clio. I guess at 27 I am starting to grow up!

It's by far the best looking estate on the road and it drives so well for the size and fact it's FWD!

a couple of alfa dealers will remap it, no real problems with mine over the last 22k, other than heavy tyre wear.

No mate, the good news with Alfa ownership is they realise you are an enthusiast and will fit the Autodelta chip without it harming your warranty.

I had mine done by Mangoletsi and get slightly better acceleration and better fuel economy than Alfa claim for the standard car.

My experience of the 159 (and 156) is that they are tyre sensitive. Mine came on standard Bridgestones (don't know if they still do or what size your wheels are) but as soon as they wore down it went onto Pirelli P Zeros and the improvement in handling was well worth it.

Good luck, you have chosen a very, very good car. Oh and be prepared for two things.

1 People you don't know will tell you how good looking your car is.

2 Idiots will ask you if it's broken down yet.

Excellent, I will look at a chip then! Better MGP would be great.

The wheels are the standard silver 19s and come with PZero fitted.
I am going to get a four wheel alignment done straight away!

People say there are issues with the auto lights/wipers. Are there??

Auto lights have three settings but in truth they are either on in everything but sunshine or not.You can set them to your own preference but as I said it's either on or off. Auto wipers are the same as in most cars but every once in a while you might have to reset them, which is simply a case of switching the wipers on and off (twice). That said the speed setting on the wipers can sometimes feel like a waste of time. All the auto settings are no worse, and probably a bit better, than in a BMW.

Mangoletsi's chip tune is usually a tuning box, yes it does increase power....not very well though a few of my mates had it done, on rolling road printouts the graphs are very 'spikey' also cause egr valve trouble down the line, my friends have now removed the boxes and had reputable remaps, drive much better, more power and better mpg.
as an aside i believe that Mangos tuning box are not covered by Alfa Romeo but by mangoletsi themselves.
There are many a multipage debate on the Alfaowner forums regarding the few pros and many cons of said boxes.

It's good that you get a mix of opinions in a thread like this, otherwise you end up with just positive personal experience. smile

Well, the big day is tomorrow and I cant wait. I have flown back into the country just for this, before I fly off again on Saturday.

The dealer has been fantastic. Its been the best customer service I have ever had. I thought that sort of thing was not around anymore. And that it was now standard for people to be rude as they took your money. Im glad to say I am was wrong!

As for the reliability issues, I am already bored of people saying its going to breakdown on you, so my standard answer is "At least I will look good while sat at the side of the road". that usually gets a smile.

Pics will follow soon.
