Ok, so not the reason to be buying one of these I know, but in trying to justify one it needs to be considered as I'm currently doing 20k a year.

So at motorway speeds - lets say 70 - 75mph, what kind of mpg would it be getting?

Bear in mind I'm currently getting 34mpg out of an 11yr old 1.8 Focus, so if 30mpg could be coaxed out of a GTA on the commute I can see a mighty powerful argument being made.

If not, then my backstop is keeping the Focus and going for a GTV V6 for the weekends.

I doubt you will see 30mpg on a GTA tbh. My 2.0TS gets 30-37mpg on motorway runs = 360 to 440 miles to a tank.
You would be seeing 26-28mpg on the GTA.

That's my thinking in all honesty. As much as I'd love a GTA, it has to make sense on all fronts.

Time to pick the best of the V6 GTVs then smile

GTV... funny you should mention, as that's my forthcoming purchase to run alongside the 156. Still debating if I should take the coupe or spider (emmm). If you have a £6K budget then go for the CUP if its weekend car or 3.0V6 Lusso... be nice to have one of each varient smile

best I got out of my 156 GTA was 31.

but that was on a nice, steady M Way run on pretty much the whole tank. (was a dreadfully dull drive though!)

Averager was around 21-23. Crikey.

I average about 24-25mpg on combined runs when I drive like I'm going to the retirement home.

If you use a bit of acceleration and sit at 80 on the motorway you won't see more than 22-24mpg over a full tank.

I keep thinking of selling the old girl but as soon as I put my foot down fall in love all over again! cloud9

23mpg for mine, pretty much all the time, had to really granny it to get 31mpg.
