I could use some advice please.

I have an Alfa 147 Selespeed which is off the road as I forgot to do the belt and it snapped frown

Would you have the engine repaired for about £1500, have a new one fitted or sell it for spares/scrap?

Apart from the engine it is in good condition with about 65K on the clock. It has been SORN for about 18 months though.

Any guidance greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would cut my losses and sell it for scrap. The selespeed will be difficult to sell, as the box has been trounced by the new double clutch systems, and is firmly in the slide rule category. I don't know the year / spec etc, but if it's pretty old you may be struggling to get £2000 for it fully operational, with all the hassle and hazards involved in getting it fixed cheaply it's not really worth the bother.

ETA at first I though by the thread title that you wanted a 147 selespeed - I thought why? (I have owned one, together with at least 10 other alfas, and it was the one that gave me most grief)

The age of the car is essential in giving any advice...

Sorry I have not replied - I have been crazily busy with work the last week or so.

It is a 2003 model I think (I really should know!). I think I will put it on e-bay for spares/scrap. What sort of price do you think it might go for?

In order to make maximum dosh out of her, then you need to strip all the key components and list them individually on Ebay and then with the remaining shell - scrap metal merchants as Steel is in demand and will net you extra money.... That said, its time and effort, space at home for the car to be stripped down. Selling it as a Spares (non-runner) would only net you a few hundred pounds as a complete car.

You might want to put a thread on AlfaOwner.com - All the best!
