Business after the outbreak
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I'm Kieran 25,
Just joined the forum as I noticed this section was very active with people sharing great business experiences.
Had a pretty bad start to the year with a major depressive episode and quarter life crisis but had a huge breakthrough in sorting myself out and started to overcome life long low self esteem issues.
So then the outbreak happened and works not looking promising going forward as Im a temporary worker in a big bottling plant It pays well £15.68 basic to £20.85 for certain parts of the job but its so unfulfilling and All I do is save save save (Thank god I did) and I work as a support worker at weekends (On hold aswell).
Before covid I was looking for a fresh start in engineering and nearly had a job in the rail sector, had great interview feedback and the experience nboosted my confidence, but in my heart I've always wanted to have my own business
So I reached out to my GF dad who has been in car trade for many years and asked if I can work with him on my days off and show me the ropes as ive had experience selling cars but mostly parts from breaking projects and I love the kick and he knows that i have good knowledge of 90s 00s jap cars and performance cars.
Im a qualified level 3 service and repair technician just not time served but always do my own repairs.
Im trying to focus on just this idea instead of getting my head all confused with other ideas, my goal is to try flipping a few cars per month as another income source and feel some fulfilment in my life and then try few other things as my confidence grows.
So my question is what advice would you give to someone in my situation once covid has passed ??
Thanks for reading It really is appreciated.
Stay safe people.

Nice post kid, why don't you just do it.
Be choosy about what you buy, and don't buy for yourself, but what sells.
You may be able to pick up a car with some basic problems and with your skill set you are well placed to fix it up. Then stick it up for sale and try to turn a profit. Cheap reliable runners with a years mot will sell well.
Don't have too much money tied up in any one car, and don't take any risks you don't need to, there will be plenty of time for that once you've accumulated the experience to mitigate the risk.
Don't be greedy and always leave something on the table for the other party. Keep the cars turning over, sell locally and you will develop a good reputation. Sell one bad car and the bad news will travel far quicker than your good rep.
You won't always get it right, running a business takes a lot of resilience. Don't allow the mistakes to knock your confidence, its to be expected, because it will happen so budget for problems.
Finally, there is never a wrong decision, just bad timing.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply, that's exactly it will be doing my homework to see what's in demand in my area.
Start small and find my footing.
Just need to wait for when things go back to normal, also wanting to start doing trackdays and grow my confidence driving and meet new people since I've been shut away most of my life.

How near to a trackday track are you? Perhaps you could combine the 2 and buy cars that need a spruce up mechanically to make them trackday suitable, stick in a roll cage, strip the non-essential parts and sell them. As long as the car has all it needs to be driven to/from a trackdday. Coudl make a nice little niche for yourself. Especially if you focus on 2 or 3 car makes models only.
Have all the cars heavily branded with your trackday brand. You could even add trackday support packages i.e be the persons engineer on the day making sure it's safe to drive between runs.

Quite a cool idea but question is what would be the demand especially post Outbreak.
I stay just over an hour from Knockhill.
Looking forward to starting the trackdays and meeting new people that's for sure. However practically being laid off is a real struggle this week is going to be interesting to say the least.
