If your air boxes are in need of repair, you could do no worse than bodge insert some 2 1/2" bore exhaust pipe.

My air boxes had been repaired at some time, the passenger side being in quite a poor state.

I found some 2 1/2" stainless exhaust pipe left over from a previous project and thought I'd have a play..

the fit is very snug, some if not most of the outlets had to be kissed with a flap wheel.

On each of the outlets I drilled two holes at approx 180 degrees apart, passing through the airbox and pipe, into the holes I pressed a cap head screw. Each screw was then tack welded and the top ground off. Slits were cut in the fibre glass before the pipes were inserted wink

The drivers side airbox was in far better shape.

The finished airboxes have been on the car for several thousand miles with no perceived adverse effects, and of course you can clamp the pipes as hard as you like without squashing/breaking owt.

Looks good Mark.

Ive a pair of 4.5 air box backing plates that need repairing before going on ebay, my idea is to use plastic gutter fall pipe ( if i can get the right diameter ? ) and glue and glass them in place

But failing that, have you any of that pipe left over, in return for a beer or two ?

Yes I do like that! I could also do with some of the pipe! - I think getting it cut in to nice even sections is the biggest challenge!

I leave my pipes just loosly attached due to crushed airbox connections.

This looks like exactly what I was going to do to mine...mine are tired and starting to split....

I still haven't sourced a battery....but was thinking it would be an ideal opportunity once I had got the induction off...

I would have kept it on the QT side though cos thought it would create out cries of..."what about flow bla bla"

I'd be interested in some of that tube too....if there's any left after those in the head of me in this queue biggrin

Of course the thing here is that you'd be able to tighten the clamps up without thinking.....when am I going to crush the pipe...I like it...2 1/2 in inches you say...mild steel would do the trick I guess...

There will always be the neighers or even thrice neighers winkthumbup the post was about fixing a busted airbox for very little money, it's robust and with less chance of foreign objects getting sucked in the TBs ? can only be a good thing smile

No offence taken smile my fault for not taking more care in my reply. I've re-read some of my other posts from yesterday, they all seem rather terse ...apologies to everyone smile

If I can help in anyway give us a shout.

Know what you're saying about a list, at the top of mine are some new disks eek

Good man...Then we can compare see how it should be done biggrin

What material are you going to use? I would have liked to use aluminium but couldn't figure out a way of fixing them in place, I can't weld ali and screws/poprivets can vibrate loose, I did think about tiger seal for a moment.....

Is that stainless steel really not going to rot? Are those pot rivets going to stay where they are...?

Strange post, from someone who seems to love criticizing peoples efforts when they themselves have no mechanical aptitude at all ???

It looks marvelous chaps & well done, cant see pop rivets being any problems as our "friend" seems to imply??
