Hi I just have this question, what Is the current punishment for not wearing a seatbelt while driving, and is there points involved?

A bit silly of me I'm a dustcart driver, I drive around Hatfield area in the UK, and obviously I jump out all the time to help the loaders finish off the rounds as quickly as we can so we can all go home early, however today I'm pretty certain I forgot to do up my seatbelt when we went out on the main road (hey it happens when you buckle up all the time, so please dont hate lol) and we drove past a mobile speed camera that was nicely parked on the side of the road, my worry ain't the speed as I was going around 28mph an hour it's just the seatbelt part, if I was clocked can I get sent a nip and what is the current punishment for it? When i googled it, every website I go on shows a different result so I havent got a scoobie what actually is true, I always though it was 100 quid fine with no points if cought?

They mooted points for it last year. I don't think it ever happened though. I suppose it could in theory be argued to be driving without due care, but I've never heard of that happening.

So as it stands there is no points and just a 100 quid fine?

I believe so in England. You might get a more conclusive answer in SP&L.

Wouldn't require an NIP - not one of the offences that does.

And of course you are making collections in a goods vehicle when travelling less than 50 metres between stops aren't you.

"Rule 99
You MUST wear a seat belt in cars, vans and other goods vehicles if one is fitted (see table below). Adults, and children aged 14 years and over, MUST use a seat belt or child restraint, where fitted, when seated in minibuses, buses and coaches. Exemptions are allowed for the holders of medical exemption certificates and those making deliveries or collections in goods vehicles when travelling less than 50 metres (approx 162 feet)."

If you were under the speed limit I very much doubt plod would be in the slightest bit interested. I’m happy to be proven wrong but even if they did take a snap it would be inconclusive from a photo that you weren’t wearing a seatbelt. I suspect you need to be eyeballed by the policeman and pulled over.

I've been spotted by police when my wife as a passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt (she was leaning into the back to do something with our then baby daughter) and they just disapprovingly mimed putting a seatbelt on and then went on their way.

I get what your saying but the thing is as it states its collections no more than 50 meter apart, what I was trying to say is that we came out a side road that we have collected bins on and then went onto the main road to drive to a different road (roughly about a mile) we didnt stop once on the main road to collect any bins.

I was just curious tbh If there is points for seatbelt as I would like to keep a clean license, I'm not really that bothered if it's only 100 quid fine with no points, you live and learn I suppose.
