In 10 days time the world is going to war

1- everyone knows its coming
2 - only a single country will be left standing
3 - only way to win is if every other person outside your country is dead
4 - any method to kill can be used and any person can go anywhere
5- countries can op-operate but there can only be one winner
6 - for arguments sake when a countries population gets down to 5% the rest of the population automatically die - this is to avoid those situations where a group of people go underground for 70 years
7 - for arguments sake, 'the system' knows which country you represent at all times and where you are. So if rule 6 comes in to play, you drop dead.
8 - at the start each person starts from the country they want to represent. But there must be a valid reason - i.e. you already live there, are a citizens etc

Questions

a - who wins / is this even possible?
b - how long does it take for a winner to emerge?
c - how much damage would be done to the earths natural surface?

Have you seen the film Equlibrium? Here is a quote from Father (Du Pont)

"In the first years of the 21st century, a third World War broke out. Those of us who survived knew mankind could never survive a fourth; that our own volatile natures could simply no longer be risked. So we have created a new arm of the law: The Grammaton Cleric, whose sole task it is to seek out and eradicate the true source of man's inhumanity to man - his ability to feel".

Maybe but given the choice they would drop one on London, so I will be toast.

What country will people forget about? Iceland maybe? Or some remote island nation.

I've often wondered if it did kick off and a load of nuclear missiles were headed our way, would we get a heads up about it, or would it just happen, realistically what use would an official warning be in it would only cause mass panic?

In November last year someone revealed that the targets were Hull, Cumbria and a certain part of Edinburgh. Reasons were not given but possibly docks, Sellafield and nuclear submarine base.

Ten days time you say. Hmm, won't bother getting the lawn mower out then.
Could it not be sorted by a method like say "Strictly" where the war is won by some sort of phone in voting and a dance off?

Did you ever watch Blake's 7. In the episode Death-Watch the planets Teal and Vandor are locked in an endless war whose battles are decided periodically by representatives from both worlds fighting to the death in one-on-one combat.

I think if the balloon really did go up, then we would get no warning at all, if the priority is to get heads of government and royal family etc to safety, the last thing they want is a load of headless chickens running around getting in the way

I think I would be more worried about an EMP

Not true, Hull has been hiding under a clever disguise of a post apocalyptic wasteland since the 1970s.

To outside forces, there's no need to target the place as the job is already done.

Does that mean Puton would win with a judo throw?
