What shocks me is the issue of taxis with defective tyres being dealt with by the Council.

What will the course entail?

The new course will cover things like the legislation surrounding the issue of defective tyres - which the council said is a growing issue.
I thought that vehicle defects were still dealt with by the police... is that actually a council issue? eek

Still a police issue but lots of taxi firms have to have an council 'MOT' every 6 months. I guess this is linked to that and they can be offered courses if offences found.

If police stopped them, it will be the same as anyone else.

I stopped a taxi driver a few months ago. We had a taxi licensing officer with us. He had a bald tyre, dodgy seat belts and I think something else that I can't remember.

They took his plate off him and he couldn't work again until it was fixed. The punishment I would say was harsher than what I could have given him (points and fine for tyre). The licensing bloke checked everything.

So did he get 3 points for the bald tyre after you reported him for it?

There's no excuse for bald tyres , even if you can't afford new there's plenty of places selling used tyres , I have a transit van with 4 tyres on the back , Michelin agilis are almost £500 for a set of 4

Found a place in Chester , if new Michelin have 10mm these are on 9mm , they fitted , pressure tested and balanced 4 tyres for £140 including vat

It was like Britain in the 70s , one taking them off one fitting one balancing one putting them back on, I was done and dusted in 15 minutes
