Go on, I'll be the first to ask - What's the flat 4 like after the flat 6?

Both look very nice by the way, are the silver roll hoops standard on the 718?

Cheers, silver roll over bars are a £357 option. I'll do a write up on the engine change soon.

What is said about the 981: “It’s marvellous, last of the naturally aspirated F6s, a definite classic. Value never goes down, only goes up. And let me tell you about the sound! The glorious sound! You dont even scrape the nose in a car park, it’s just the best thing ever, it’ll never, ever depreciate !”

I know owners like their cars, but it appears Porsche owners here are more susceptible than most to posting embellishments about them than anyone else. Sure talk up your cars, but what an absolute pile of tosh are many of the comments.

I owned a 981 for 4 years, an ok car. But not the best, no no not by a long shot. I now own a 718, read some of the threads on here and it sounds like a tractor. Power delivery is imprecise. Terrible just terrible all this “progress”, I must be insane trading in the last of the F6s for emissions driven forced induction, must need my head examined, some even traded back the other way for an older car!

Well let me tell you the truth, having actually owned each one, and stripping through the considerable amount of “embellishment” written about it on here. The 718 is a massively improved car. The performance vs my old 2.7 is insane, the torque is now so low down it gives just crazy amounts of acceleration. But what about the sound? Well what an absolute crock of st that debate was, a 100 pages of total nonsense written in some threads. “Agricultural”, “diesel”, “Subaru” and so on. Again just utter rubbish, makes me wonder if most of the posters actually own the cars they say they do.

Don’t believe the die hards on here, the 718 is a massive step forward imo, reading some threads made me very nervous about the upgrade. In the end, it turns out a lot of rubbish had been written about it for fun or whatever. [The engine change] is not the the end of the world, it’s progress (but don’t believe me just go try one for yourself.)

A long post not giving much detail... when you do get specific you talk about low down torque. Useful for a daily but not a sports car. I haven’t driven a 718.

How can it have been a crock of sh.t debate?

The sound is purely a personal choice/opinion.

I went to buy a new one and didn't like the sound, does that make me a "talking utter rubbish"?

Yep, tried the 718 (Base and S) on several occasions (had a 718 S as a courtesy car for a week) it’s a great car in many ways, improved in some areas over the 981, but I’ll be sticking with the 981 thanks.

Your car looks great though. Always like the look of silver Boxsters
