Morning all, the property is in Edinburgh. It is a block of flats with 6 properties in it. 3 of which are owned (1 is mines) and 3 are council rents.

The flat is owned privately and hasn't been occupied for 25 years, surely there is somewhere I can get details of the property and make the owner an offer?

Basically I am looking to get a decent flat in Edinburgh for cheap.

Any advice or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

hahaha

Pulling the title deeds will tell you who owns it/write a letter and put it through the door

I'm very surprised it's been empty for 25 years, the council are trying to push to reduce the amount of empty homes in Edinburgh

Sorry if it wasn't clear, this is an ex-council flat that is owned, easier to renovate if I live next-door to it. Thanks for your help.

So all 6 flats are unoccupied? Or just 1? Do you live in the building already? Is it one of the council flats or private flats that is unoccupied if not the whole building? How do you know it's been empty for 25 years?

There are 6 flats in a block, 3 are owned by the council and 3 were bought from the council, 1 of the privately owned houses has been unoccupied for 25 years (according to my neighbours). Planning on making an offer direct to the owner.

Sorry, your OP was clear. Just laughing at the whole get a cheap flat in Edinburgh!

I'd still get the deeds pulled to get the owners name(s) then research them if possible

Yeah I appreciate it might be a long shot, but the worst they can say is 'no'.

If you don’t get a reply from sending a letter to the owner, they may have moved. You’ll be as well to then pay for a tracing agent to find there whereabouts.
Or the local council will probably have an empty homes dept who may be able to help. One thing they won’t do, is act as a sourcing service for you.

I paid the Land Registry people for the title deeds or whatever and googled the owner. A company director, so I have a lead. Thanks again for everyone's help.
