When periodically scanning my credit report (noddle) I've found a CCJ showing up, issued on 6th September.

There are a few issues, I have no idea what it relates to, I have had no paperwork through at all (parents address) and I need to keep my credit record squeaky clean. Also the judgement is showing up under a very badly spelled version of my name. Thing is the amount is not insignificant - £5.1k

How do I go about finding out what it relates to?

Only thing I have is my name (spelled wrong), My address (my old address - parents), judgement date (6th Sep), the amount (£5.1k) and "County Court Money Claims Centre". There is a case reference number also but can't see any way of deciphering it.

would it be worth trying again with a different credit check company to see if its still there?

it should say on your credit file if you have any old debts- leading up to a CCJ for £5k

if is possible to phone the CCMCC and they should at least be able to give you name of the company claiming the money, if you quote the claim number, but you should have had the court docs by now, at your parents address

Now solved, was able to trace the claim via the court by typing in "County Court Money Claims Centre" on google.

Turns out that my insurer had dropped the admin baton when filing a claim/defending a hire car claim relating to a disputed liability motorbike accident 18 months ago.

A call to the solicitors involved via my insurer has now had it sorted - it's currently in the process of being set aside to get them off the hook for this admin balls up

Believe me I will - am FCA regulated so can't let it move to default

Apparently the paperwork to set it aside was served last week although a courtesy call/email would have been appreciated

They need to sort this ASAP. It will need to be paid within 28 days of the Judgment and only then can an application be made to remove it from the register. After 28 days, all you can get is a Certificate of Satisfaction which will show that it's been paid but it will remain on your report.

AIUI if it's set aside then it can be removed after any amount of time. After all it's as if it were never made in the first place.

I don't see how you can get a CCJ with no paperwork. Would your parents have binned anything?

I see the set-aside is in progress. Hopefully this will now resolve itself. Good luck

Nezquick is right. If liability isn't in dispute, I'd push for it to be paid by the Insurer within the 28 day period if you've still got time. It's their fault that judgment has been entered. You may not have been served with paperwork if the insurers have nominated solicitors to accept service of proceedings and act on your behalf. It may have been the Solicitors who allowed judgment in default to be entered.

An application to set aside judgment may not be successful. It's a 2 strand test. The solicitors have to show that they have a reasonable prospect of successfully defending the claim and they have to have acted promptly. A messed up credit record will not be reason enough to successfully set aside judgment.

What were the accident circumstances? Were you at fault?

I'd play merry hell with the insurers to have allowed this to happen.
