Nissan 'steer-by-wire'
Discussion
I like the idea, not for every car but sure it can have its place, as has been said, variable ration, bet they could engineer in various degrees of feedback like a force feedback PC wheel.
Every time a new idea is touted the luddites come out in force, lets give it a try, see if it is any good and perhaps make a decision based on that, it isnt like nobody has ever had a wheel, column, rack or track rod end fail, i had an Audi where the pump failed at high rpm, boot it and no steering.
I can see the benefits in packaging and safety, no column, just a wheel, could swap the wheel side to side to change to LHD, instruments int he middle, make light work of driving on the continent.
