Never really bothered me tbh.

Could be all sorts of reasons why people on benefits have material goods. Perhaps some of them weren't always on benefits? Perhaps they scrimp & save in other areas.
Lots of things like large flat screen TVs can be bought nearly new for not very much money, and if you have little money & can't go out, then a TV, Xbox & decent collection of DVDs would pretty much be a necessity.

If seeing people on benefits having stuff in their houses upsets you, then I can only suggest avoiding such programs in future.
Very well put.

You never really know how/why people may end up on benefits, and yes we know some are milking the system. Speaking first hand though, I pretty much had a reasonable life and then 1 day due to an accident and some very strange rulings by the DVLA I lost my career. It was a real struggle and as it got harder I had to sell a lot of things just to survive as I wasn't even entitled to benefits, (despite having fully paid my taxes for 25 years since leaving school.)

I had the nice TV, xbox, etc, etc but its all gone now along with a cracking collection of rock n roll memorabilia but such is life these are the things you have to do when the chips are down and the system gives you zero help.

3 years on and things are easier again now and I certainly have a greater appreciation of the value of the money I earn these days than I may have done in the past.

I also like to now and then give to those sleeping rough or down on their luck, not money but buy them a sausage roll and a coffee from Greggs or similar. I may be a mug, they may be a con artist but its my choice and I try as much as possible not to judge books by their covers.

I saw the show the other night, enjoyed it and thought the scooter was a nice little touch at the end.

Watched the last series and have seen the first programme of the new series. Interesting that we have to feel sorry for someone who only has £170 a week left after mortgage and bills. Back when I was living on my own I had about that much left a MONTH after rent and bills.

Did you have kids and a disabled wife though?

No, but I didn't get any benefits or tax breaks either. Plus, I don't count kids as a cause for sympathy 'cause people have kids out of choice.

I completely agree (I didn't have kids as I couldn't afford them at the time). However, the 'poor' people on this prog did have kids and were evidently having real problems surviving financially as they were down to one income after an accident to the mum a year before.

A little empathy would go a long way. smile

...as the 'rich' people recognised.

Seems like they have changed the rules for the show now, the surprise for the 1st episode of the new series tells us the rich couple bought and built a treehouse for the poor family kids and also paid off (7 weeks after the show) 3/4's of the poor family £11k ish credid card debt, they have also set up a joint saving account with the poor family to enable them to save for a house deposit!

When is/was the new series on? Sounds like a nice gesture.

Channel hopping tonight until I saw a Ferrari on CH5.

Potentially a PH'er?

Premise of the show seems to be a wealthy family swapping homes, budgets and lifestyle for a week with a poorer family.

This episode is a London based (well built) property developer for team Rich who has a black convertible, only caught a glance but maybe an f12(?). The poorer family moved in and there's a whiteboard showing what the usual weekly schedule and listed on it was "Track Day" hehe

Quite enjoyed it tbh, property developer actually did some decorating for them.

"poor" family seemed to be cracking on great for a single part time salary. Fair play
