Cerb buying - stressful business

Hello all - I am in the market for a Cerb and looked at a S6 engined car today. Trouble is, the car has no documentation to back up the very complete service book - serviced & stamped by HHC for all of it's life.
The car shows 33k miles. Does anyone here know anything about the car or it's previous owners? Will HHC have paperwork on record (and share it with me?)

The dealer started the car up from cold and it sounded much quiter than any other S6 engined car I have heard before. Am I mad to even consider buying it? They want top money for it at £16k.

Please help - my head says one thing, my heart says another..

Phone HHC and ask them, easiest and quickest way, i did this with the car i own, some of the garages were happy to help but some said that it was private information for some unknown reason.

I wouldnt even consider buying a TVR with no documentaion for history and previous work done, unless you can talk to others and verify the information - and see they are telling the truth. I have 25k of servicing receipts with mine, and Im about to put it up for sale.

You are buying from HHC, and the service book states that HHC have serviced it all it's life. Then HHC can provide all the documentation to support their claim, it will all be on record, I don't see any problem at all.

Thats the trouble, the car is being sold by Castle TVR in Essex , not HHC.

I bought a Saab from eBay with no reciepts but a stamped book, contacted the dealer in the book and I got sent all the history - they blanked out the previous owners name on the all receipts, so don't take the "We can't supply the history due to Data protection Act blah blah blah......" there are ways round it.

If you like the car buy it or move on to another the service history won’t make it a better car, all Cerber’s are under valued any way

If hhc were to agree that the services done are legitimate then its no problem.

A lot of people wont get receipts.

I just bought a tuscan and while theres a complete history theres not many previous receipts. It did come with about 8k worth for recent works done which was nice, but that said i phoned up the people who had looked after the car and it all tallied up.

Maybe it had the later pods stuck in unblended (which look poo) and the owner changed them for the earlier style round ones

More worrying isn't the service history but what jobs have been done over the last couple of years and when it was rebuilt.

I had a look at that car too while I was there. I decided not to go down that route.....

My point exactly - no evidence of anything. The car does well looked after though.

Just waititng to get it back now - hopefully in a few days. Complete rebuild for this engine. Will be like new when I get it but thing is though... Its pissed me off so much not having it over my birthday week and bank holiday in the sun - that I want shot of it completely.

I tried to do exactly this a few years ago when I was looking into buying an HHC car and they, or rather Drivestyle, wouldn't play ball.

I did indeed and they were very friendly - trouble is they do not know the car from a bar of soap.

They suggested it may be Harrogate Horseless (now Drivestyle I believe) - I phoned them but their systems are down due to a move. I will call them Friday again & hopefully get answers.

If it has a warrenty i cant see your problem, at the end of the day you ARE buying from a dealer...
