What car will you restore?

I'll be restoring a Toyota Carina E in full taxi spec and probably a Skyline R33 GTR.

The Carina because i've had a few, my old man had one for seven years when they were new so basically i have a lot of memories with that car.

With regards to the Skyline GTR R33 when i was at college it was the car i aspired to so it will always have a special place for me.

Oh and probably an E34 525i Sport

And if I can afford, a 1980 Merc 500SL

Yes, complete with 'massaging' steering wheel cover, no smoking sign over the passenger airbag, beady seat cover, period 'stolen' cassette player, shiny religious CD dangling from the rear view mirror, gold tissue box on rear shelf multi coloured cheap tissues and a mismatched set of part worn tyres

At the moment I can see myself building a high spec ac cobra rep it may well change when I'm old

You'll all be working until you're 70 by then and all those pensions will be looking very thin. I'm 52 and still have 3 kids 11, 5 and 2 so won't be restoring anything anytime soon.

If I did, it would probably be an old Corvette.

+1 - I've thought about getting a Pilgrim Sumo kit before I got my VXT, but I think I'll leave that for a couple years yet.

That said, by the time I'm retired I'd imagine an R34 Skyline will be a classic - and that's a car I've always wanted!

I don't know as the car hasn't been released yet, but something interesting from the next 10 years!

(I am only 24, so will be restoring a 50 year old car that hasn't yet been produced or designed!!!)

E-Type full body to original spec then something XJR under the bonnet. Would love to mess with an Alfasud again but as we are talking money would prefer a Pantera or 512BB.

I'll probably restore my Monaro in about 20 years or so, when it turns 25.

If I do it completely myself I'll be very surprised.

Anyway, engines over 1549cc will be banned in the UES* by then!

Maybe by the time I'm drawing a pension the colour schemes might even be back in fashion! (Mmm, brown velour...)

Although following current trends, what was once a straight-up, no nonsense "big motor" will probably be about the size and weight of a crumple zone on a 2049 Smart. Don't have the figures to hand but I seem to recall reading that the latest Mondeo was already bigger.

I've always had a thing for a Triumph GT6, so one of these perhaps. But as my retirement is nearly 40 years away I can't see this being feasible- a GT6 will be over 80 years old by then!
