AWD, fast but n/a?? Can it be done?

Ok, oddball one this. And one I'm struggling to think of many ideas for.

It must be n/a
Pref 4 cylinder, but max of 6
AWD
Fast as possible
compact as possible would be a bonus too.


Budget £3-4k

EDIT: Must be a UK car, or at least available in the UK if an import, with ok parts supply.

Errrr why?
All your typical AWD rally reps are turbo, at least the ones with guts are.
Fast audis are Turbos, or else 4.2 quattros and thus V8's.
BMW's are RWD or proper 4x4s (and V8)

And your price limit just kills it stone dead.
All I can find on 'trader is this, http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011... and I'm not even sure that it's not turbo....

Cavalier GSI 2000 4x4, Sierra Xr4x4 2.8 or .9 V6 and they did a 2.0 version too, Impreza Sport (160bhp IIRC), Golf 2.8 4 motion, 325ix, and the very rare 4 door swift saloon that came with 4wd are the only remotely quick NA awd cars I can think of.

Fastest I can think of would be the W8 passat but that is twice the cylinders you wanted.

i've seen a few of them over here, okay one.

159 3.2v6 Q4 would be my next suggestion, slightly more compact then the 164 suggested above.

Good choices there, especially the Sierra because you could drop in the later spec 2.9 24 valve engine for an instant 200bhp.

Diesel sounds like a good solution then - You should be able to find something TDi and AWD for the money.
